Hallo meine Lieben!

Heute möchte ich etwas über Wolverine – Still schreiben. Zunächst wer sind Wolverine? Nun diese Band stammt aus Schweden, existiert seit 1995 und wurde  von Marcus Losbjer und Stefan Zell gegründet. Sie starteten ihre Laufbahn als Death-Metal Band, wechselten ihren Stil jedoch recht bald in Melodic Progressive Metal.

Seit ihrem über 10 jährigem bestehen sind folgende Werke erschienen: „Fervent Dream“ im Jahr 1999 als mini-CD, hier sollen auch noch „growl-vocals“ vorhanden sein.

„The Window Purpose“ im Jahr 2001 wurde im Spacelab Studio in Kempen, Deutschland aufgenommen. Dieses Werk erhielt recht passable Kritiken, so auch in Rocktimes.

„Cold Light Of Monday“ erschien 2 Jahre später, also 2003 und wurde mit sehr guten Kritiken gesegnet.

Im Jahr 2005 ist „The Window Purpose“ nochmals als re-release herausgebracht worden.

In diesen 10 Jahren sind leichte Wechsel im Line Up der Band vollzogen worden, auch hat man mehrmals das Label gewechselt, bis man im Jahr 2005 nun bei „Candlelight Records“ einen Deal abschloss.

Leider kam es im Frühling 2006 zu einem erneuten Wechsel, und zwar hat der Keyboarder Andreas Baglien die Band verlassen und ist durch Per Henriksson ersetzt worden.

Auf ihrem neusten Silberling Still, dass im Juni 2006 das Licht der Welt erblickte, wirkte Andreas Baglien allerdings noch mit, welches aus dem Booklet zu ersehen ist.

Still ist, wie auch „The Window Purpose“ und „Cold Light Of Monday“ im Spacelab Studio aufgenommen worden. Musikalisch soll dieses Werk zwischen “The Window Purpose” und “Cold Light Of Monday” liegen, so habe ich es jedenfalls gelesen. Ich selbst bin nicht in der Lage dies zu beurteilen, da ich „The Window Purpose“ nicht kenne.

Was haben wir als Hörer nun von Wolverine – Still zu erwarten?

Nun, mit Power und Emotionen geladene Musik, welche überwiegend recht düster aus den Boxen klingt. The House Of Plague ist sehr Druckvoll aufgebaut, jedoch sind auch schöne ruhige Passagen eingebaut worden, ähnlich verhält sich dies bei Bleeding, This Cold Heart Of Mine und And She Slowly Dies.

Taste Of Sand fängt mit tragenden Keyboardklängen an, mit dem Gesang setzen auch Schlagzeug und Akustische Gitarre ein und ist im gesamten ruhiger als die beiden Songs zuvor.

Fender, Rhodes und Glockenspiel, welche man bei Nothing More hört, sind im „Fox Face Studio, Schweden“ von Andreas Baglien  aufgenommen worden. Ein sehr ruhiger Song und wunderbar geeignet zum fallen lassen und sich den Klängen hinzugeben.

Für Sleepy Town wurden extra programming in Marcus Losbjer’s Apartment aufgenommen. Sowie die extra Percussion, gespielt von Lasse Vänngárd bei dem Track Hiding, Double Bass ist hier auch zu vernehmen.

Bleibt noch zu erwähnen, das Still von „Eroc in Eroc’s Mastering Ranch“ gemastered wurde.

Ich mag die Musik von Wolverine sehr, so auch das Album Still bei dem es bei der Klangqualität nichts zu bemängeln gibt! Es würde mich allerdings interessieren ob Wolverine die Musik auch Live so gut vermittelt? Ich hoffe eines Tages mal die Gelegenheit zu erhalten mich von einem Live Auftritt zu überzeugen.

Today I want to write something about Wolverine – Still. To begin with, who is Wolverine? Well, the Band originates in Sweden and exists since 1995. They were founded by Marcus Losbjer and Stefan Zell and started their career as a Death Metal Band, but after a short while they changed their music style into Melodic Progressive Metal.

Through the years of their existence following albums were released: “Fervent Dream” in the year 1999 as a mini-CD, on this album you will find some growl-vocals.

“The Window Purpose” in the year 2001 was recorded in the Spacelab Studio in Kempen, Germany and received pretty good critics, also in the Online Magazine Rocktimes.

“Cold Light Of Monday” was released two years later (2003) and scored high points from the critics.

2005 “The Window Purpose” was re-released.

During these 10 years there were also some changes in the Line Up made, also they have changed the Label a few times, now Wolverine has signed a contract with “Candlelight Records”.

Again there has been a change in the Line Up in springtime 2006, the keyboard player Andreas Baglien hade left the Band and was replaced by Per Henriksson.  

On the newest Studio Album Still, which was released 2006 Andreas Baglien does appear in the booklet for his work on the keys, so I guess he must have left the band shortly after the album was finished.

Still also was recorded in the Spacelab Studio, just like “The Window Purpose” and “The Cold Light Of Monday”.

The music is best described as a mixture between “The Window Purpose” and “The Cold Light Of Monday”, at least that is what I’ve read. I actually can’t confirm this, because I never heard the music of “The Window Purpose”.

What do the listeners have to expect from Wolverine – Still?

Well, music that is full of power and emotions and most of the time very melancholic.

The House Of Plague is very powerful, but it also has calmer moments in it. The structure of this song you will also find in Bleeding, This Cold Heart Of Mine and in She Slowly Dies.

Taste Of Sand starts with nice keyboard sounds and as soon as the vocalist starts to sing the drums and acoustic guitar fills in too. It’s a nice calm and melancholic song.

Fender, Rhodes and Glockenspiel, which you will hear in Nothing More, were recorded in “Fox Face Studio, Sweden” by Andreas Baglien. A nice song to sit down and sink into the sound of music, I hope you understand what I mean by that. ;-)

For Sleepy Town were extra programmings in Marcus Losbjer’s apartment recorded. Also the extra percussion, played by Lasse Vänngárd in the track Hiding, here you will also hear double bass.

By the way, I also should mention that Still was mastered by “Eroc in Eroc’s Mastering Ranch”.

I do like the music of Wolverine – Still very much and I’m wondering if their music sounds as good Live on stage? That aspect I still need to find out, hopefully I will get the chance to see and hear them playing Live in Germany some day.
