Rob Reed ist für mich schon seit vielen Jahren kein unbekannter Musiker, zeichnete er sich ja schon für die Musik verantwortlich bei folgenden früheren Bands, wie Cyan und Fyreworks. Seit 2001 existiert nun Magenta, beziehungsweise erschien die erste CD Revolution, welches eine Doppel CD ist. 2004 folgte das Album Seven, gefolgt von der EP Broken. Wenn mich nicht alles täuscht gibt es noch eine DVD, allerdings bin ich mir da nicht sicher. Das i Tüpfelchen an Magenta’s Musik ist mit Sicherheit die faszinierende Stimme von Chistina, welche eine schöne warme Klangfarbe mit schönem Timbre hat.

Nun will ich endlich zu der spezial Edition Home kommen, und zwar zu CD 1 Home.

Hier geht es um eine junge Frau in Liverpool lebend, die ihrem schlechten Lebenswandel ein Ende setzten will und ein neues, besseres Leben beginnen will und daher sich auf die Reise in die USA begibt.

Die leere und den Wunsch nach Veränderung haben Magenta in einem wunderschönen ruhigen Sound verpackt, in dem Song This Life, mit Christinas schönem Gesang und Rob Reed am Piano.

Hurt, ein Up Tempo Song, jedoch nur zu beginn, reflektiert ihren damaligen Lebenswandel in Liverpool. Geprägt ist dieser Song von schönen Gitarrenläufen.

In Moving On fast die junge Frau den Entschluss ihren Lebensstil zu verändern. Geboten bekommt man hier einige Tempowechsel, ein sehr schönes Gitarrensolo, sowie Saxophone.

Nun begibt sich die junge Frau auf die Reise in ein neues Leben, wo wir bei My Home Town (Far Away) wären. Im Hintergrund hört man dezent eine Mandoline und rhythmisch wird man ein wenig an Mike Oldfield erinnert.

Die junge Frau ist nun der guten Hoffnung, in den USA ein besseres Leben zu finden, was sich in Brave New World widerspiegelt,  sowie in Towers Of Hope.

Anstatt eines veränderten Lebens, verfällt die junge Frau genau wieder dem Alkohol und der Prostitution, also ihrem alten Lebenswandel, welches uns in Demons verdeutlicht wird. Sehr eindrucksvoll ist hier der Gesang von Christina.

Nun wird sie von Visionen heimgesucht, in denen sie ihre Eltern sieht, was zu einem Unfall auf der Straße führt, wo wir bei dem Song Morning Sunlight wären.

Nach ihrer Genesung begibt sie sich wieder auf die Reise, bei der sie Joe kennen lernt und mit ihm ins Reservat zieht. Dies ist auch der alleinige Track welcher die 10 Minuten sprengt. Der Aufbau des Songs ist sehr symphonisch, mit Klavier und viel Keyboardpassagen zu tollem Gesang, welches auch Stellenweise ein wenig an Yes erinnert.

The Dream und The Visionary, wobei hauptsächlich der letztere zu Anfang bombastisch aufgebaut ist, wird der jungen Frau bewusst das das Leben mit Joe auch nicht die Erfüllung ihrer Träume sind.

Sie wird wieder von einer Sehnsucht geplagt und schon sind wir bei dem Song Visionary’s End.

Der letzte Track Home ist ein toller Abschluss, des sehr gut gestalteten Albums. Für eine besondere Atmosphäre sorgen die Uilemann Pipes, des Troy Donockley (Iona), sowie natürlich auch der Rest der Musiker.

Die Hintergründe zu der Reise dieser Frau habe ich übrigens durch Magenta’s Webseite erfahren, wo auch erklärt wird weshalb man eine 2. CD hinzugefügt hat und zwar um Longtrack Liebhaber nicht zu enttäuschen. Bei der spezial Edition ist diese 2. CD ja dabei und für alle die nur die normale Version von Home erworben haben, sei erwähnt dass die New York Suite zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt noch einmal gesondert erscheinen soll. Dies ist nun mein Stichwort mich mit dieser 2. CD zu befassen.

New York Suite erweckt den Eindruck als wäre diese CD in einem anderen Studio aufgenommen, da bei der Klangqualität leichte Abstriche zu machen sind. Auch ähneln die Songs sehr im Aufbau der Sevenphase, am deutlichsten erweckte Arrival diesen Eindruck.

Ansonsten verstehen die Songs Arrival, Home From Home, White Lies und Truth zu gefallen.

Dieser spezial Edition Home spreche ich eine klare Kaufempfehlung aus. !!!

Rob Reed is to me a well-known musician for many years, since his music was already available with the Band  Cyan and Fyreworks. The first CD by Magenta came out 2001 and was called Revolution; by the way it was a double CD. 2004 the album Seven was released, followed by the EP Broken. Also a DVD with the title The Gathering was released by Magenta. What makes the music of Magenta so special is the fantastic voice of Christina, at least to me.

Now I will go into the spezial Edition Home and I will start with the first CD, which is called Home.

The Story is about a young woman living in Liverpool and who decides to start a new and better Live, so she moves to the USA. 

The emptiness and the desire to change her life are wrapped in a very beautiful song titled This Life, with Christina’s vocals and Rob Reed at the piano.

Hurt, an Up-Tempo song, but just in the beginning, reflects her previous lifestyle in Liverpool. This song has very nice guitar work.

In Moving On the young woman decides to change her life into a better one. The song has a few tempo variations, a very nice guitar solo and nice tune with the saxophone.

Now the young woman moves to the USA, to start a new live, which leads us to the song My Home Town (Far Away). In the Background you get to hear decent sound created by mandolin and the rhythm reminds me a little bit of Mike Oldfield.  

The young woman is now very hopeful to lead a much more better life, which is reflected in the songs Brave New World and Towers Of Hope.

Instead of the better life the young woman is back to her old one, a life full of alcohol, drugs and prostitution. It’s pointed out to us in the song Demons. Here the vocal part of Christina is very impressive and to me it seems that she improved her singing style a lot.

Now she has visions, first of her dead mother, then of her father what causes her to be hit by a car and we are at the song Morning Sunlight.

After her recovery, she goes on a road trip, where she meets Joe, a Native American, and goes back to stay with him on his reservation. This song is the only one which lasts over 10 minutes and has a very symphonic structure, with piano and keyboard passages to great vocals, which reminds me a little of the Band called Yes.

The Dream and The Visionary, precisely The Visionary starts in the beginning in a bombastic way, the young woman realises that the life with Joe doesn’t fulfil her dreams.

The young woman feels homesick for her hometown Liverpool in the song Visionary’s End. The last Track Home is a fine ending song for this story. The uilemann pipe of Troy Donockley, who usually appears with the Band Iona, creates a special atmosphere, also all the other musicians involved.

The Background information was given at the Website of Magenta, by Steve Reed himself, who wrote the lyrics for this album. There you also find the explanation why there is a second CD made, called New York Suite.

In the special edition the CD New York Suite is included.

New York Suite appeals to the Long track lovers, but I’ll get the impression that the CD was recorded in a different studio, because the sound of this CD is not as good as with the first CD Home. Also do the songs sound similar to the songs on the album Seven, especially the song Arrival gives that feeling.

Anyhow, the songs Arrival, Home From Home, White Lies and Truth are very enjoyable.

I speak out my recommendation for the special Edition Home!!!
