Sensitive To Light ist ein Nebenprojekt des Vynce Leff, welcher mit der Band Seans schon tolle Alben herausgebracht hat, wie *Escaping From The Hands Of God* und *Prophet In A Statistical World*.

Auf der Webseite ist zu lesen, man habe Seans vorläufig auf Eis gelegt um eigene Ideen zu verwirklichen und an anderer Stelle konnte man von Vynce selbst lesen, das es zu diesem neuen Projekt kam da einige mit den gesanglichen Qualitäten des Pascal Bouquillard nicht zufrieden waren. Ich allerdings gehöre zu denen die Pascals Gesang mochten.

Nun kommt sicherlich die Frage auf, was ist bei Sensitive To Light anders? Nun, musikalisch hat sich nicht viel verändert, jedoch haben sie mit Jenny Lewis eine fantastische Sängerin gewinnen können. Sie hat eine sehr schöne warme tiefer gelegene Stimme, vergleichbar mit *Heather Findley von Mostly Autumn*, nur das Jenny in der Lage ist noch anspruchsvoller zu singen.

So, ich schätze dass ihr nun mehr über Sensitive To Light – Almost Human lesen wollt, gelle?

Almost Human ist ein Konzeptalbum und ist inspiriert von Carlo Collodi’s Novel: Pinocchio.

Eingeleitet wird die Geschichte mit dem Song Pinocchio: i. Dreams Are Comming True Tonight und zu hören bekommt man wunderschönen choralen Gesang.

Mit einsetzen der E-Gitarre des Vynce, welcher ein beeindruckendes Solo hinlegt wären wir bei Pinocchio: ii. Birth. Dieser Song bewegt sich zwischen ruhigem bis mittleren Tempo. Außer der tollen E-Gitarre, sowie dem wunderschönen Gesang der Jenny hört man noch klasse Saxophone Einlagen.

Sphärische Klänge zu beginn, darauf folgend hört man mehrstimmiger Gesang zu schönem Keyboardteppich und Pianoklängen, hier sei auch der druckvolle Bass erwähnt, bekommt man auf Something Happened In The Garden Of Eden zu hören. Auch gibt’s bei diesem Song wieder eine schöne, jedoch kurze Passage vom Saxophone. Gegen Ende wird mächtig Spannung aufgebaut mit Schlagzeug, wobei hier der Gastschlagzeuger hinzu kommt und Dudelsackklängen, Klasse!

Mit Carpe Diem werden ruhigere Klänge vernommen und hat einen stark verträumten Touch, geprägt von Jennys wundervollen Stimme.

Einen sehr dramatischen Aufbau bekommt man bei Kyrie (Gepetto’s Death) zu hören. Beginnen tut dieser Song mit leicht schrägem Gesang zu Klavier. Auch die Keyboardsounds sind leicht schräg und bauschen sich immer mehr durch einsetzenden Chorgesang auf. Im weiteren Verlauf nimmt man auch die E-Gitarre war und die Keyboards nehmen einen Orgelsound an wie man ihn in der Kirche vernimmt. Wau, mir laufen da richtige Gänsehautschauer den Rücken herunter.

Snow, ein schöner ruhiger Song, wobei man sich hier auf den Gesang der Jenny, sowie des Saxophone konzentriert hat.

Gänzlich anders wird es bei Travels, so bekommt man hier orientalische Klänge geboten, fantastisch! Gegen Ende des Songs werden auch Klänge aus dem Jazz wahrgenommen, erzeugt vom Saxophone und Klavier.

Father (The Truth), ebenfalls ein genialer Song, wobei Jenny und Vynce im Duett singen. Auch die Gitarrenarbeit weiß hier zu überzeugen und etwa in der Mitte wird noch einmal kräftig Spannung aufgebaut, indem zur E-Gitarre die Rhythmusfraktion einen tollen Sound vorgibt. Eine kurze jazzige Passage mit Piano und Saxophone gibt es auch. Ausklingen tut der Song wie er Anfing, außer das noch ein tolles Solo vom Saxophone zu hören ist.

Memories beendet die Story von Pinocchio mit schöner akustischer Gitarre zu Jenny angenehmer Stimme.

Jetzt wäre ja eigentlich Schluss, wenn da nicht der Bonus Track wäre, Why?. Ebenfalls ein toller Song, mit schönen Keyboardpassagen, faszinierendem Bass und tollen Gesangspassagen, der an manchen Stellen chorähnlich wird.

Tja meine lieben, ich bin froh und dankbar, das ich in Jogi-Progforum auf diese tolle CD Aufmerksam wurde und hoffe noch mehr von Sensitive To Light zu hören, die mit Almost Human ein fantastisches Werk geliefert haben.

Sensitive To Light is a side project of Vynce Leff, who had released two great albums with the band Seans. The albums were named *Escaping From The Hands Of God* and *Prophet In A Statistical World*.

On the Website you can read that the Project Seans has been put on Ice for a while, because they wanted to realize their own musical ideas and in a Forum Vynce posted that he started this new project, because so many people weren’t satisfied with the voice of Pascal Bouquillard. I for one did like Pascal’s voice.

Now some of you mite ask, what makes Sensitive To Light different? Well, musically there isn’t hardly any difference noticeable, with the exception that there is a female vocalist now. Her name is Jenny Lewis and she has a warm deep voice and her voice is comparable with *Heather Findley from Mostly Autumn*, only that Jenny is able to sing more demanding parts.  

Well, I guess that you want to read more about Sensitive To Light – Almost Human, right?

Almost Human is a concept ional album and is inspired by Carlo Collodi’s Novel: Pinocchio.

The story starts with the song Pinocchio: i. Dreams Are Coming True Tonight and you will hear very nice choral vocals.

As the e-guitar of Vynce starts, who plays an impressive solo, we are at the song Pinocchio: ii. Birth. This song has calmer parts and some parts are in the mid tempo. Except the great E-Guitar you will also hear the nice Vocal part of Jenny and the nice sounds of the Saxophone.

Spherical sounds at the beginning, then follows concerted singing to nice Keyboard- and Piano sounds, I also should mention the great work of the bassist, you’ll get to hear by listening to the song Something Happened In The Garden Of Eden. Also you will hear a short, but nice part by the Saxophone. At the end of this Song the drums built up a lot of pressure, here the second drummer is taking place and sounds of bagpipes, Great!

With Carpe Diem starts a calmer song and has a dreamy touch to it, with Jenny’s wonderful voice.  

A very dramatic song structure you will hear at Kyrie (Gepetto’s Death). The song starts with singing to the sounds of the piano. Then you will hear Keyboard sounds and choir singing, followed by the electric guitar and the Keyboard sounds changes to Organ, like you get to hear in a church. Wau, there are shivers running down my spine by hearing that great song.

Snow is a nice clam song, focused on the vocals of Jenny and the Saxophone.

Totaly different is the song Travels, here you will hear oriental sounds, fantastic! At the end of this song you’ll hear jazzy sounds created by Saxophone and Piano.

Father (The Truth), also a genial song, were Jenny and Vynce are singing in duets. The Guitar work is extremely good and in the middle of this song pressure is build up by a great rhythm from the Drums and Basses. There are also some Piano and Saxophone. The Song fades out as it started, except that there is a nice solo from the Saxophone.

With Memories ends the story of Pinocchio, by hearing nice acoustic Guitar to the nice vocals of Jenny.

Normally this would bet he end of this album, but there is still the Bonus track Why?. Also a tremendous good song, with nice Keyboard passages, fascinating Basses and great Vocal lines.

Well, my lovely folks, I’m glad and thankful that I stumbled over this great CD in Jogi-Prog Forum and I hope to hear more music from Sensitive To Light, who delivered with almost Human a fantastic piece of work.
