Die luxemburgerische Band No Name existiert schon seit 1988. Zu dem doch eher ungewöhnlichen Namen kam es als sie zu einem Gig als die Band „No Name aus Dudelange“ vorgestellt wurden, da sie sich nicht auf einen Bandnamen einigen konnten und später, als sie sich schon eine Fangemeinde erspielt hatten, es wenig Sinn gemacht hätte den Namen dann noch zu ändern. Hauptsächlich spielten sie in dieser Zeit Coversongs, jedoch fingen sie auch an eigene Stücke zu komponieren.

1993 erschien dann ihre erste CD „Zodiac“, welches einen Song in ihrer Muttersprache enthält.

„Secret Garden“, ihr 2. Album erschien 1995 und sie unterzeichneten einen Vertrag bei Musea und Angular Records.

Das 3. Album „The Other Side“ erschien 1999 und SPV übernahm den Vertrieb.

Nun, 7 Jahre später, also 2006 ist nun ihr neuestes Werk auf dem Markt. Das 4. Album trägt auch passender weise den Titel 4!

Musikalisch sind No Name mit ihrem Album 4 klar dem Neo Prog zuzuordnen, bekommt man doch viel bombastische Keyboardsounds geboten, was für dieses Genre typisch ist. Welches man schon auf beeindruckende Weise bei The Curse hören kann. Dieser Track wurde auch schon auf Live Konzerten der Band vorgestellt und ist sehr mit Power geladen, trotzdem sehr abwechslungsreich, da es hier einige Wechsel im Tempo gibt.

Fountains Of Dreams wurde erst kürzlich geschrieben und soll noch als Single ausgekoppelt werden. Musikalisch ist dieser Song der poppigste.

Bereits 2005 erschien Thoughts Pay No Toll als Singleversion, hier auf dem Album ist allerdings eine erweiterte Version.

A Recollection Of Dreams wurde im Laufe der Jahre des Öfteren umarrangiert und reflektiert die Bandgeschichte, mit fast 17 Minuten ist es auch der längste Track auf diesem Album.

Zu der Zeit als auch die Songs für das Album „The Other Side“ entstanden sind, wurde auch Visions geschrieben, allerdings war man nie mit den arrangiertem Sound zufrieden, erst als man neue Technologie einsetzte, wie z.B. neues Keyboard befand man den Sound als gut. Ich persönlich mag diesen Song sehr mit seinen Keyboardteppichen und schönen Solo der E-Gitarre.

Promises ist eine Wiederveröffentlichung, es gab diesen Track schon 1991 und wurde auf besonderen Wunsch der Gesamten Band auf dieses Album gepackt. Beeindruckend sind hier das Spiel des Tastenmannes und das Solo der E-Gitarre.

Der Sound der CD ist erstklassig!

Laut Webseite der Band soll es sich bei 4 um ihr progressivstes Werk handeln, dem möchte ich leicht widersprechen, da auf „The Secret Garden“ und „The Other Side“ durchaus sehr progressive Songs zu finden sind. Lediglich was die Länge der Songs angeht, trifft dann auf 4 zu, obwohl wir ja alle wissen, dass die Länge der Tracks die Musik nicht unbedingt progressiver werden lässt. 

Ich mag alle Alben von No Name, so auch das Album 4 und hoffe nicht wieder 7 Jahre auf ein neues Werk warten zu müssen. Liebhaber des Neo Prog können sich das Album 4 von No Name getrost zulegen!

No Name excists since 1988 and are from Luxembourg. Why the strange Name No Name? Well, after the where introduced as the Band “No Name from Dudelange” at their second gig and after several suggestions from the Band fail they decided to stick with the Name No Name. Later on it didn’t make sense to change the Name. At the beginning they played cover songs, but also started to work on own music.

1993 their debut album “Zodiac” was released, this album has a song in their mother tongue language.

“Secret Garden”, their second album was released in the year 1995 and they signed a contract with Musea and Angular Records.

The 3^rd album “The Other Side” was released through SPV in the year 1999.

Now, 7 years later (2006) their 4^th album was released and it’s called 4!

Musically No Name is put into the genre Neo Prog, with its bombastic keyboard sounds, which is typical for this genre. These sounds you will already hear in the track The Curse. This track was already introduced to the audience at their gigs and it’s a very powerful song with some changes in tempo.

Fountains Of Dreams has been written recently and will also be released as a single version. This song is quite pop influenced.

2005 Thoughts Pay No Toll was released as a single version; here on this album is the extended edition.

A Recollection Of Dreams has been rearranged a few times until it has reached its final version, it’s a 17 min. epic track now and reads the past of the Band.

The roots of Vision go back to the period of “The Other Side”. But they weren’t satisfied with the arrangement, after they got them self new technologies, like sequences and new keyboard sounds, to power up the sound. I personally like the song with the keyboard sound and the very nice electric guitar solo.

Promises is a re-released song and has its roots back in 1991. It was put on this album because it was the bands wish. Marvellous is here the play of the keyboardist and the very nice electric guitar solo.

The recording of this CD is just great and there is nothing to grumble about!

According to the Bands Website 4 is the most progressive and melodic album until today, but I disagree on that, because there are some great music also on “The Other Side” and “The Secret Garden” and just the fact that the tracks are longer on 4 doesn’t make it more progressive, right?

I do like all the albums of No Name, also 4 and hopefully it won’t take them another 7 years to release new music. People who are into Neo Prog certainly should buy the album 4 of No Name!
